The strength of JMA lies in its people. John Motley Associates is led by a truly exemplary management team. With well over half a century of combined experience in the manufacturers representative industry, the executives at JMA bring a wide breadth of experience and expertise to the table.

John Motley

John L. Motley, III

John started in the office products industry in 1973 after graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Vermont. Dennison Manufacturing Company was his first employer and after a brief stint in the Cincinnati area, he came to Washington, DC in the spring of 1974 to cover the Virginia and DC area. In 1974 he finished third in the country in sales increases and in 1976 finished first out of a field of 120 sales force representatives. In 1976, John became a manufacturer's representative for Beck Rumbaugh Associates with responsibility for Maryland, the District of Columbia, and Virginia.

John Motley Associates was founded on January 1, 1980 when Tenex Corp. offered John its sponsorship for the new group. Since its founding in 1980, JMA has experienced phenomenal growth with increases in excess of 20% per year. Unlike many representative principals, John does not maintain house accounts, choosing instead to devote his time and efforts supporting his representatives in their endeavors. He maintains close contact with manufacturers and key accounts on a daily basis. John currently resides in Northern Virginia with his wife Debbie, and their four children, John IV, Elizabeth, Caroline, and Kate.


Rick Flounders

Rick Flounders

Rick Flounders, President of John Motley Associates, has been with John since the founding of the company in 1980. Rick graduated from Villanova University in 1974 and began his sales career as an area representative for Frye Copy Systems, a carbon paper and business machine ribbon manufacturer. He then moved on to Codo Manufacturing Corp., another carbon and ribbon manufacturer, where he was named Codo's Sales Representative of the Year in 1979. A former Vice President of the Penn-Mar-Va Travelers Club, Rick has been recognized by both manufacturers and dealers for his outstanding industry professionalism.


Kevin Smyth

Kevin Smyth

Kevin graduated from Penn State University in 1978 with a BS in Marketing. He has been with John Motley Associates for 26 years and in the Pittsburgh market over 20 years. Kevin has developed strong relationships with the mega dealer's management, sales reps and wholesalers, and he also works closely with independent dealers. Through the years Kevin has worked with a wide range of major and mid-size consumers in the Pittsburgh market. These consumers include: Mellon Bank, Federated Investors, U.S. Steel, Buchanon Ingersoll, Bayer Corp. and many others.


Bill Cvik

Bill Cvik

Bill Cvik graduated from Susquehanna University in 1984 with a BA in Economics.  He has been with JMA for 10 years.  Bill started his career in Office Products in 1987 with Bic Corporation in the NYC territory. In 1993 he joined the Manufacturers Rep community with SBR Sales where he eventually became the Vice President of Sales. With 20 years experience, Bill has built strong relationships with all accounts in the New York Region and has been involved in multiple Sales Clubs and Organizations through the years.  Bill currently runs the New York Territory for John Motley Associates.


Michael Gross

Michael Gross

As the head of our New England area and serving in parts of Maryland, Washington, DC and Virginia, Michael Gross has been a pillar in the office product industry for 21 years. After graduating from New Hampshire College with a marketing degree, Michael took a position as a direct sales rep for Stanley Bostitch. After earning two consecutive Sales Representative of the Year awards, he began his own manufacturing rep company named Michael Gross Associates. With a team of five sales reps, Michael Gross Associates was heralded as the leading rep group in New England for numerous years before merging with Wilson Associates where he served as Principle for six years. During that time, Michael was awarded the GRC Sales Representative of the Year award in 2000, the Samsill Corporation Rep of the Year award in 2001 and OfficeMax Rep of the Year award in 2001. In 2002, Michael joined John Motley Associates to manage our New England Territory. Michael most recently received the Energizer 'Keep’s Going' award as the Sales Rep of the Year in 2006. He has been with JMA for six years and has continued to excel in outstanding customer service satisfaction and professionalism.
